“We are willing to spend five years in university learning for a career, so why do we think we don’t need to learn when it comes to raising children — the most important 18-year project of our lives?”

– Mr. Long, a parent from FV88 It Com Tay Ho Tay, shared a reflection that deeply resonated with all parents attending the “Positive Parenting” course.

The “Positive Parenting” course has just reached its 8th session — a milestone where parents faced one of the most difficult challenges in parenting: managing anger.

cha-me-tich-cuc-02

Mr. Le Van Hao explained an important truth: when anger takes over, our brains switch into a primitive “fight or flight” mode. Out of love and intense concern, parents’ minds can sometimes function like a “radar,” exaggerating risks and catastrophizing every mistake their children make.

In those moments, even with good intentions, losing control can turn us into the people who hurt our children the most. Children are left confused by a painful contradiction: if this is love, why does it hurt so much? Only when we remain calm can we think wisely enough to find non-violent solutions that help children feel safe rather than fearful.

To manage anger effectively, the “Time-out” toolkit for parents was introduced as a practical strategy:

  • Step away from the “hot zone”: temporarily remove yourself from the tense situation by getting a glass of water or moving to another space.
  • Regulate your body: count from 1 to 10 or focus on deep breathing to regain emotional balance.
  • Communicate honestly: calmly tell your child, “Mom/Dad is feeling very upset right now. I need a few minutes to calm down, then we can continue talking.”

cha-me-tich-cuc-03

When parents choose to “slow down for a moment,” connection is preserved. And only through connection can the true influence of education begin.

The 8-session journey at FV88 It Com has been shaped by many heartfelt real-life experiences shared by parents. One example is Ms. Nga from The Dewey Ocean Park, who lives as far as Thanh Tri Bridge yet consistently traveled the long distance every week for the past eight weeks.

“I learned how to regulate my emotions in ways that suit my child. Only when I change positively can I guide my child toward good values without placing pressure on their emotional well-being.”

cha-me-tich-cuc-04

Mr. Long’s story from FV88 It Com Tay Ho Tay brought another deeply emotional reflection. He shared how one evening he became irritated because his child kept delaying homework. But when he noticed the frustration and sadness on his child’s face, he suddenly realized that his child had also gone through a long and exhausting day at school. Instead of continuing to assert his authority as a father, he chose to apologize. The moment his child burst into tears after finally feeling understood became the clearest proof: when parents can control their anger, love finally has a safe place to stay.

Becoming a positive parent does not mean becoming perfect. It means continuously striving to understand your child with a calm and compassionate heart. Your calmness today may become the most valuable gift for your child’s mental well-being tomorrow.

“After today’s experience at Dewey, I think I’ve started to identify my direction for the future. I’m really happy to have participated in such engaging experiments and meaningful career workshops.”
That was the sharing of Pham Hoang Anh, an 8th-grade student, after attending the workshop “Define Your Goals – Shape Your Future” at Dewey Hai Phong.

trai-nghiem-02

Not only Hoang Anh, but many other students shared the same feeling when “stepping into the role” of a Dewey student through a series of diverse classes. From MDE (Making and Design Engineering) lessons withMr. Frank—where students develop creativity and problem-solving skills like young inventors—to English classes using flashcards combined with real-life communication practice, helping students confidently use the language in authentic situations with native teachers. Science also became more exciting through hands-on experiments such as generating electricity from lemons or exploring the principles of electromagnets.

Through Dewey’s experiential learning approach, students are not only inspired with curiosity but also encouraged to reflect on what they have learned. Knowledge becomes a two-way process, enabling them to deeply understand concepts and confidently apply them to solve real-world problems.

trai- nghiem-03

The highlight of the workshop was the Career Orientation session, where Grade 8 and 9 students learned to understand themselves and different career paths through models like the “career tree” and Holland’shexagon-based assessments. Through this self-exploration process, students gradually identify their strengths, choose suitable subject combinations, and begin shaping a structured academic pathway for high school.

trai-nghiem-04

A morning as a “standard American-style student” came to a close, but what lingers is more than just exciting experiences or initial career direction. It is a shift in how each student perceives learning: every moment ofself-discovery, hands-on exploration, and independent thinking becomes a “real asset” that builds their adaptability for the future. And that journey of a thousand miles begins with meaningful experiences today.

Which environment helps your child balance academics and extracurriculars?

According to the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), current global university admissions trends show that institutions no longer focus solely on GPA. Instead, they place strong emphasis on curriculum rigor, extracurricular activities, and personal essays. Many top universities in the U.S., such as Harvard and Stanford, have adopted a holistic review process—evaluating the entirety of a student’s journey, from experiences and projects to how they express their personal perspectives.

This reflects a clear reality: grades are no longer a competitive advantage—they are simply a prerequisite. In an environment filled with high-achieving students, what makes your child stand out?

ho-so-cua-con-01

WHAT KIND OF LEARNING ENVIRONMENT HELPS BUILD A DISTINCTIVE PROFILE?

It is one where students actively construct knowledge, deeply understand core concepts, and apply them flexibly through purposefully designed experiential learning activities. Through this, they develop both intellectual capacity and essential skills as global citizens, ready to adapt to an ever-changing future.

  • A program transferred from Mount Vernon School (USA), implemented alongside the Vietnamese Ministry of Education framework, ensures students build a strong academic foundation while developing analytical thinking, reasoning skills, and adaptability to higher academic standards.
  • A structured Career and College Counseling program starting from Grade 6 helps students understand themselves and career pathways early, set clear academic goals, and optimize their profiles for admission to top Vietnamese universities such as Foreign Trade University, Banking Academy, Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, National University of Civil Engineering, as well as prestigious global institutions like Monash University, Korea University, and the University of Sydney.
  • Interdisciplinary projects across Mathematics, Literature, History, ICT, and Science enable students to apply knowledge in real-world contexts—from scientific research and product design to building business models—thereby developing systems thinking and the ability to connect knowledge flexibly.
  • An English program aligned with Common Core standards equips students to achieve diverse academic goals. Students use English as a tool for research, presentations, debates, and participation in international competitions and academic contests. As a result, English goes beyond test scores to become a powerful instrument for learning and global competitiveness.
  • In addition to academic competitions, students participate in business simulations, financial projects, and real-world problem-solving through competitions such as the JA/FedEx International Trade Challenge and the Vietnam SEIA Entrepreneurship Competition. These experiences allow them to turn ideas into real value—from planning and calculation to execution—fostering an application-driven mindset rather than purely theoretical learning.

Stepping into the Grade 11 interdisciplinary project space, themed “Contemporary Social Issues,” many parents were pleasantly surprised by the realistic stage performances, interactive art activities, and a handcrafted photobooth rich in emotions. Instead of approaching the topic through abstract theories, these Grade 11 “young psychologists” chose a more relatable perspective to explore the deeper layers of humanemotions hidden within the inner self.

du-an-02

The 7-week journey of continuous learning, debate, and creativity was brought to life through an impressive immersive stage. Through the lens of Literature – History – Geography, emotions were not merely seenas everyday reactions but examined in relation to historical contexts, cultural influences, and living environments. Through this reflection, students recognized that in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, people can easily “neglect their emotions,” leading to subtle yet profound impacts on mental well-being.

du-an-03

At the heart of the project was a theatrical performance centered on the inner world of a Grade 11 student. Each emotional layer was vividly portrayed through familiar situations: academic pressure leading to discouragement, comparisons with peers sparking jealousy, or invisible expectations creating internal tension. The audience was invited to look deeper into the underlying causes of emotions, understanding that everyreaction is shaped by context, pressure, and surrounding environments. The performance also offered a dual perspective: emotions can serve as a driving force, but they can also become barriers if not properlyunderstood and regulated. In an increasingly fast-moving world—where joy can be fleeting and emotions fragmented—the ability to recognize and manage emotions becomes an essential life skill.

du-an-04

Ms. Như Thu (Parent of Trí Cường – Class 11 Atlanta) shared: “The emotional issues raised by the students are highly practical. Through their creativity, they have recreated emotions in various forms, offeringparents diverse perspectives. Personally, I would like to encourage the students to focus on the positive side of emotions and approach life’s challenges with optimism.”

Beyond this project, in all aspects of daily school life, Dewey students are equipped with the ability to observe deeply, understand accurately, and regulate their own emotions in ever-changing contexts. Thisempowers them to face, comprehend, and transform emotions into a sustainable source of growth—both physically and mentally.
